A Day with Weldon and Mary
We met wet Weldon and Mary Nash in Wiscasset, Maine today for lunch. They were in Maine with their friends Richard and Lois. Weldon and Richard were in the area attending a four day model train convention held in Augusta, ME.
We met in Wiscasset for one primary reason: To have lunch at Red’s. Seems Red’s is well known in the area for their lobster sandwiches. Check out one of the photographs below and you will see what we mean! Also notice the line. We were told the line often stretches across a nearby bridge!
After lunch, Weldon, Richard and I went to a nearby town for a train related event while Mary, Lois and Meriam stayed in Wiscasset to do some antiquing and shopping.
I was expecting to view a model train setup, but was pleasantly surprised to find out we would be visiting the W.W.& F. Railway Museum. The W.W.& F. was a narrow gauge railroad opened in 1895 to serve Wiscasset and Albion, ME. Well, this was some kind of museum! The museum contains two restored engines, several passenger coaches, a flat car, a boxcar and a caboose. But the real fun was yet to come. We were treated to a ride of over five miles on a portion of the restored track — in one of the coach cars, pulled by one of the restored engines. What a treat!

The line at Red’s was this long all afternoon. We were told the line has often reached across the bridge? Check out how far away the shore is!

This is why everyone is smiling so broadly!

You don’t think this wasn’t a hoot (pun intended) to ride? The little engine on the left track was used in the latter days of the railroad to carry passengers when it was not economical to run the bigger trains.

You think Weldon is enjoying this?
