Well folks, we are finally getting around to making our first post of this trip.
After a somewhat lengthy trek, we were looking forward to “pigging out” on some of the great Mexican food one finds in Santa Fe. Our first stop was Tomasitas Mexican Restaurant. Tomasitas has for years been our “must stop”, even if we had to divert our travels several hundred miles.
Unfortunately, COVID strikes again! It seems that New Mexico has been struck pretty hard by the virus and consequently been in “lockdown” during most of the pandemic. It was only this past February that the state began to loosen some of its stranglehold on its populous. The restaurant business was hit hard and is now just beginning to recover. There are plenty of signs of their struggles – lack of adequate staff, lots of closures, minimal menu choices, changing of their old (proven) recipes, and many fewer customers. All this contributed to our disappointment when we ate at Tomasitas. Their world-famous frozen Margaritas were mostly foam (new machine) and their food was not up to their pre-COVID standards.

However, after some searching (and sampling), we did find two other restaurants where we were able to significantly add to our caloric intake. One place had the best huevos rancheros on the planet!
Oh, and another possible side effect of COVID. We noticed dozens and dozens of food trucks located throughout the city. Meriam speculates that many of the out of work chefs took this opportunity to become an entrepreneur, putting even more pressure on on-site restaurants.
So what is Meow Wolf? Well this is somewhat hard to explain. However, here is their own description:
“Meow Wolf creates immersive and interactive experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. This includes art installations, video and music production, and extended reality content.“
Well, we went there and still don’t know how to describe it. One of our good friends in Jefferson told us about the place and are most pleased they did.
Following are a few images from Meow Wolf in Santa Fe.

Julianne S. FischerI have been wondering when we would hear from the Blairs. So glad you two aren’t doing without food!
HaroldJulianne, thankx following us. Hopefully we’ll cut down on the caloric intake or we will have to rent a larger vehicle to return home.
Mary NashGlad you didnt miss Santa Fe. I am sorry to hear they are struggling. As people start to travel we will probably find more situations like this one.
Have fun and be safe
Hugs
HaroldThanks Mary. We are now entering Utah. It will be interesting to see their response to COVID.
maoWe’ve been to Tomasitas! I’m surprised you only gained 25# each. Stay safe and COOL!
HaroldThanks MAO. Good food but not so cool here! Hopefully more so as we head to higher grounds.
Marsha L DessommesWell, it certainly sounds like a great time!!
HaroldThanks Mardee. Seems like we are just getting started and have been gone over a week!
