Turkey Track Bluegrass Festival

Hi Everyone! This is NOT a normal posting for us. As you are aware, we make our usual postings when we take our “big” trips. However, we try every year to take at least a two-week trip to Roaring River State Park in Southwestern Missouri. We have been visiting Roaring River for many years. Meriam started coming to the park with her parents when she was 3 years old…so that means she has been coming for at least 97 years :-). At Roaring River, we fish some, play some, and generally spend our time relaxing.

So why this “special” posting? It seems that Meriam discovered a Bluegrass music festival in Arkansas the weekend before our trip to Roaring River. So, we decided to attend! Now, while we are not avid fans of country or Bluegrass, we thought it would be fun to attend.

It turns out that this festival, the Turkey Track Bluegrass Festival, was celebrating its 45th anniversary! Over the course of the three-day festival, there were several nationally recognized groups, as well as four or five pretty good groups.

One of the things (in addition to the good music) that surprised us was the size of this festival. Physically located in the deep woods of Arkansas, this physical site covered many acres with attendance well north of 600 people. Additionally, we were surprised at the number of RVs…probably 400+!!!

The following are a few of the photographs from the festival, including one short audio clip of Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. Rhonda is known as the Queen of Bluegrass and was recently inducted into The Grand Ole Opry.

Rhonda Vincent’s touring bus.
A panorama of one of several areas packed with RVs!
Even more RVs.
A portion of the crowd.
The group “SpringStreet”…these guys were really good…one of our favorites!
Rhonda Vincent and the Rage…definitely our favorite!
Christian Davis… another of our favorites.
Dozens and dozens of golf carts…a result of the venue being so spread out…and a bunch of ole coots in attendance 🙂
One of several vendors at the festival. This one was special…soft serve ice cream (reputedly made from turkey milk!)
Short clip of Ronda Vincent and the Rage (click on the “play” arrow on the left).
